Black & Blue is the follow-up album to the Backstreet Boys' 1999 studio release Millennium. This is their third U.S. album release. The 13-song selection features five songs co-written by members of the group, plus two songs written by all five. In the United States, Black & Blue sold 1.6 million discs in its first week of release, making them the first group in Soundscan history to have million-plus first-week sales with back-to-back albums. Black & Blue also sold more than 5 million copies in its first week of release worldwide, which set a new first-week record for international sales.
