Vangelis: Mythodea - Music for the NASA Mission, 2001 Mars Odyssey (2001)

Well....the buildup, the lineup of musicians and the glowing reviews I read prior to buying this sight-unseen certainly had me excited about viewing this presentation. And....what a letdown. I guess I expected a lot more. What was offered? Well, Vangelis, to begin with, along with the London Metropolitan Orchestra, sopranos Jessye Norman and Kathleen Battlee and the National Opera of Greece Choir. All of this was being performed at the Temple Of Zeus in Athens. Wow, it sounds impressive, and some of it is, but unless you are into slower operatic-type symphonic music, it's a bit boring.I expected some great visuals concentrating on outer space shots, glorious pictures of the stars and planets. You know, a light show to accompany the fine music. It just didn't happen. Yeah, it was filmed in a classy manner, a la Andrea Bocelli's Tuscany concert, was it wasn't anywhere up to the excitement the reviews indicated. Those space visuals were the big letdown. They were nothing. In a word: boring.
