It has elements of The Earthling (William Holden, Ricky Shroeder) and The Black Stallion (Kelly Reno, Mickey Rooney). (Oh, BTW, The Earthling is not about people from Mars etc.)This is a good family movie, almost perfect. I thought it might be a true story, but was unable to confirm that.
