Darin Morgan became everybody's favourite recluse when he turned in a script so tight and resourceful that no writer in the following seven seasons could topple it. Jim Rose and The Enigma are full of the type of energy that only comes around now and then, Wayne Grace brings over thirty years of experience to his Sheriff Hamilton creation, Vincent Schiavelli wanders and wobbles wonderfully and the loyal Gordon Tipple is blessed with a real chance to shine as Hepcat Helm. Kim Manners directs with a firmness that allows the episode to spiral and spin, but never get totally out of control, Duchovny and Anderson both appear comfortable, despite the fact that they must have been aware that things were changing forever.
