An X File set aboard a ghost ship should be a masterpiece mentioned in the same breath as Home and Bad Blood - unfortunately, Dod Kalm is only OK and only just that. The general storyline is tight and thoughtful, the script has it's moments, but the episode's credibility is seriously compromised by the special effects. The make-up simply makes the characters look ill, rather than old, if this was more
An X File set aboard a ghost ship should be a masterpiece mentioned in the same breath as Home and Bad Blood - unfortunately, Dod Kalm is only OK and only just that. The general storyline is tight and thoughtful, the script has it's moments, but the episode's credibility is seriously compromised by the special effects. The make-up simply makes the characters look ill, rather than old, if this was a straight-to-video movie made for 76p you could forgive this, but this was one of the biggest shows on television. Anderson fights through the episode valiantly and Duchovny's performance is full of great bits of business. The guest stars, however, are all oddly disappointing, none are given great roles admittedly, but they surely could have done a bit more with them, you half expect them to check their watches and wander off for a tea break....
