The Drinky Crow Show (2007)

initiated by nita on September 19, 2008 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0965415/)

This was one of several show pilots that aired during Adult Swim's "Night of 1,000 Pilots" on May 13, 2007. "The Drinky Crow Show" is based on the "Maakies" comic strip, a comic strip I never heard of until looking up the pilot with the thought, "Who's idea was this?" Okay, before I start, several say the shorts on "Saturday Night Live" were better and this sucked. Well it was created by the same guy who does the strip (Tony Millionaire). I've seen the SNL shorts and they're good too, but I liked this as well. The short starts off with Drinky Crow and some girl. Drinky's already drunk (you can tell by his eyes). The girl tells him to choose between her or the drinking, the answer: Drinky throws up on her, he's kicked out (with his booze), and then drinks once more. After the opening theme, he and Uncle Gabby are now in a boat dropped off of their ship and are hunting for these weird-looking whales with two blow holes. Drinky is basically tired of the horrors of life and tries to kill himself during a whale attack and he sees a mermaid (or maybe it was there) but Gabby interrupts it and now he wakes up on the boat. The captain's daughter tells Crow to find what he is dreaming of, to basically get rid of him while she and Gabby have sex, but Gabby realizes without Drinky Crow, the French (portrayed as crocodiles) might attack them, which they eventually do. Meanwhile, Crow is away, drunk with a six-pack around his neck.He returns to see Gabby cut in half, the top half being eaten by a shark while hanging on a fishing pole held by the French lieutenant, and Drinky thinks their torturing the mermaid, and all hell breaks loose. It all ends impressively, in my opinions (it was cool when Drinky showed some sharp teeth). Some tend to point out that the voices in this version suck. I didn't mind them, Gabby sounds like an idiot in this version, but I thought Dino Stamatopolous (The creator of "Moral Orel") did a great job doing the voice of Drinky Crow. The animation was great too, it was cel-shaded (entirely computer animated and then shaded with 2D animation).Overall, I give the pilot a 10. I don't want to compare this to "Superjail" either because that was great as well. Overall, I hope they pick it up for a series (they should do that to "Korgoth" as well).
