I think Sophie B. Hawkins fans will enjoy this documentary that gives us a glimpse into the creative mind of the artist. We are given clues to what inspires her, what motivates her, and what experiences may have influenced her in her life, but we are not given the entire picture, nor should we be. I think Sophie B. Hawkins fans will enjoy this documentary that gives us a glimpse into the creative mind of the artist. We are given clues to what inspires her, what motivates her, and what experiences may have influenced her in her life, but we are not given the entire picture, nor should we be. Even celebrities are entitled to keep a part of themselves personal and private, so we are left to wonder and draw our own conclusions.Hawkins fans will like this documentary specifically because it does revolve around Hawkins, and not the fans or outside commotion of a tour. After all, it is predictable what the fans would say, so who wants to hear interviews with the fans for the whole documentary? We know what the fans think of Hawkins. This film is for the fans who want to get to know a little more about the person behind the music that touches them and is a part of their everyday life.Through Hawkins' own words and Gigi Gaston's direction, this film does succeed in letting us get to know her some, and even relate to her on a more personal level. Those who want to watch a generalized music documentary detailing every aspect of a concert tour, along with all the crew and players, will be disappointed I think. The focus of this documentary is Hawkins, and the director, Gigi Gaston, from her creative insight and vantage point, skillfully shows us a glimpse into Hawkins' world, and it seems to be a world not many women would come out of as strongly, bravely, and creatively as she has.I came out of watching this film with admiration, but also some envy. Oh, to have just one ounce of the bravery and confidence Sophie B. Hawkins has (not to mention talent)!
