Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks(MKSM) is perhaps the greatest entry to the Mortal Kombat series since the very impressive Deadly Alliance. The animation is neatly done, the controls fluid, and gameplay addicting. Let me break it down. At the end of the first tournament, Shang Tsung and his minions were, for the most part, defeated by Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, Johnny Cage, Raiden, and Kung Lao. After a ferocious battle, the heroes attempt to leave the crumbling island, only to get trapped. The game starts from there, and revolves around Liu Kang and Kung Lao trying to defeat Shang Tsung and Shao Kahn, who are defying the Elder Gods by waging war on Earth. You then play from an Earthrealm fighting academy, to Outworld, to even the depths of hell in your conquest to stop Kahn and Tsung. Fight through hordes of enemies, including main characters such as Baraka, Kano, Mileena, Reptile, Goro, and Kintaro, using a 360-degree combat system, weapons, special moves, and the environment.Graphics: The animation is pretty clean and everything looks clear enough, though a little bit more could have been done. Enviorments look great.Sound: The voice acting is a little below par, but the focus of the game isn't the voice talents. The music sounds beautiful, and was scored very well. Of course, all the sound effects are clear and loud.Violence: MKSM is a Mortal Kombat game, and is always reminding you of that! We get non-stop martial-arts violence, gushes, spurts, and splatters of gore! Heads get severed, bodies are split, impaled, crushed, everything...The most graphic in the series yet.Sexual Content: Not too much here, though the females characters are wearing thongs for the most part.Language: Nothing too bad. A few D's, b's, and a's...and one reference to a cat...(wink wink)Replay Value: Very high. There is a lot of stuff to unlock. Characters, fatalities, concept art, MK 2, and all upgrades... There are four playable characters for story mode...that should keep one entertained.Overall: MKSM is a great 3d action/adventure game. With buckets of gore, many enviornments, and many things to unlock, this is by far on of the best in the series. 9/10
