August 1991 isn't stylish historical action thriller as you could think after seeing Klass. It's more like documentary. The budget was underweight and it's amazing what Ilmar Raag has done. August 1991 is documentarieng events that occurred in August 1991 in Estonia. There is some real documentary scenes in this film(Soviet tanks invasion to Tallinn) thanks to low budget, but this isn't irritating more

This film is actually very accurate to depict historical events. To Estonians this film may be have some deeper meaning, specially to them who stood against soviet soldiers and protected their not yet born country. To me this is just good historical film about Estonian Independence. This pre-Klass film showed Ilmar Raag's real directorial skills first time.
