One of the features of history is that it reflects two periods - that of subject and that of the time of writing of the history.

This book is no exception. It examines the 1st century BC from a 21st century AD perspective. This means issues such as politcal favours and corruption, genocide, and collateral damage from military campaigns are all examined in a candid way.
